Music for Religious Weddings
You will normally need to choose music for four parts of the wedding ceremony, namely the entrance of the bride, the signing of the register, the recessional (exit) at the end of the service, and some hymns.
You may also want music after the prayers but before the final blessing, and something to be performed before the ceremony, as the guests arrive.
Love Divine is the only church wedding music CD in the UK to address all these areas. Released in 1999, it contains over 30 classical organ, choral and solo vocal pieces, performed by some of the country's finest singers and players, and providing a superb overview of music for Anglican and Catholic wedding ceremonies.
The Power And The Glory, on the other hand, is a double CD exclusively of organ music - no singing at all. There are 40 fabulous tracks - some popular favourites and some rare gems. Classic FM magazine was moved to declare it 'exhilarating…a terrific sound'.
Both discs were newly-recorded - they aren't rehashed compilations of 1960s recordings, unlike some other wedding CDs! Each track is annotated with our suggestion as to which part of the ceremony it is most suitable for, and they have all been recorded to appropriate time lengths (it doesn't take 6 minutes to walk to the altar anywhere!) and are thus ideal for the actual ceremony as well as rehearsals.
If you intend to have only the organ at your wedding, then The Power And The Glory is for you. If you are having a choir too, then Love Divine will be invaluable. Buy both CDs and your musical worries will all but disappear!
And remember that our two Civil Wedding CDs feature tracks eminently suitable for church weddings as well - since they're based on a string quintet, they make ideal background music for the reception too.
If you are going for a modern church wedding, why not consider some classic love songs? Smooch is an instrumental album of some of the twentieth century's greatest love songs. It has been freshly recorded by a jazz quartet (double bass, piano, saxophone, drums) with an end result that is indescribably romantic. This CD is also terrific as background music for the reception and for your first dance - you could even take it on honeymoon!
