| Music for Civil Weddings The choice of music to be played at a civil wedding is more limited than music for a church wedding, as you are not currently permitted to choose religious music. Also, you must get the approval of your local Registrar for your chosen pieces. It's all very well saying what you can't have, but there's currently no list of music that you can choose. This poses difficulties for many couples as few will have the knowledge or experience firstly to know what music is permissible, and secondly how to fit it all together. But our two civil wedding CDs provide a comprehensive solution to these difficulties:
Music for a Civil Wedding Volume I was released in 1997, and contains a mix of familiar and less well-known tracks. Music for a Civil Wedding Volume II (released in 1999) features a similar mix, including material which was not legally permitted in 1997 such as Wagner's Wedding March. There is no duplication of tracks on the CDs. Both discs were newly-recorded with some of the country's leading professional singers and musicians. And since they're based on a string quintet, they make ideal background music for the reception too. Contemporary music, of course, is more likely to be non-religious, and if you want pop or jazz music, then Smooch could well be the CD for you. It's an instrumental album of the twentieth century's greatest love songs, freshly recorded by a sax-led jazz quartet of double bass, piano, sax and drums, with an end result that is indescribably romantic. This CD is also terrific as background music for the reception and for your first dance - you could even take it on honeymoon! If you want to
